How It Works

XRoads Networks' BGPproxy products include a number of specific features not available in other solutions. These features make Internet connectivity faster, more responsive, more reliable, and more scalable which increases productivity and reduces end-user complaints, thus saving time and reducing IT costs.

What makes the BGPproxy solution unqiue is that it can optimize and accelerate cloud service sessions traversing the multiple links without having to actually modify the BGP routes themselves. This eliminates any potential BGP table issues and provides superior performance as compared to other solutions that require BGP route modification.

Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) has both inherent and configurable route filters and metrics which tend to be slow in convergence. XRoads Networks' BGPproxy solutions suffer from none of these drawbacks.

How To Deploy

The BGPproxy solution has several deployment options depending on the customers existing network configuration. Each method is transparent and can be implemented without affecting ANY existing traffic flows, thus ensuring a smooth transition without servie interruptions.

Parallel Deployment

In a parallel deployment the BGPproxy appliance sits in parallel with the primary BGP (WAN) router. In this configuration the BGPproxy typically interfaces directly with the BGP router handling the secondary ISP connection, or via a DMZ port. The network administrator can also determine which traffic should be optimized by forward the traffic from the firewall to the BGPproxy appliance for optimized delivery.

Three Legged Deployment

In this type of deployment, the BGPproxy appliance is hung off of a switch between the firewall and the primary BGP router. In this scenario, the BGPproxy talks directly to the firewall and any traffic that the network administrator wants to optimize is specifically forwarded to the BGPproxy via the BGP router or optionally the firewall.

Transparent Deployment

With a transparent deployment the BGPproxy appliance sits in bridge mode between the firewall and the BGP router. This configuration has both advantages and disadvantages as compared to the other deployment types and is only recommended under certain circumstances which our support team will determine early during the installation interview. One of the advantages of bridge mode is that traffic can be re-directed on the fly.
